Understanding U-Values

U-values measure how effective a building element is at insulating. Lower values mean better insulation:

  • Very poor: >1.5 W/m²·K
  • Moderate: 0.7–1.5 W/m²·K
  • Good: 0.3–0.7 W/m²·K
  • Excellent: <0.3 W/m²·K

Improving U-values reduces heat loss and helps prevent condensation and mould. External wall insulation (EWI) and cavity wall insulation are the most effective solutions.
